This weeks picture is the presentation of the inaugural Raymond O'Brien Cup in 1983. It was to be presented to the Western Intermediate hurling champions. Included in the picture from left to right are John Lyons Western Board chairman, Catherine O'Brien, Tom Doyle Tallow GAA secretary, Donie O'Brien brother of Raymond, Vincent Mulligan treasurer of bord na óg , James Tobin county board chairman, Paddy Fitzgerald western board treasurer and Dave Doyle Tallow GAA. Raymond affectionately known as Pigeon died in 1981. The western board put up the cup in his honor. Ray played his last game for Tallow against Roscrea in the Munster club championship of 1980 but his last hurling game was for Waterford against Wexford in the league in January 1981. He was a dual player for Waterford in minor and u21 codes and was on course to do it at senior level. Some of his greatest performances were against Portlaw in the 1976 county final, v Clare in U21 in Bansha and the final of the Keaneland Cup v Lismore in the late seventies. He incorporated , skill, balance and athleticism to his play and his passing at the age of twenty four robbed us of seeing him fulfil his undoubted potential. The second picture is when Naomh Colmchille Tyrone put a plague for the minor hurler of the year in his name. Declan Ferguson is shown here with Liam Mulcahy in 1995 winning the accolade. This year marks the fortieth anniversary of his passing . Cobhrán : Tallow GAA would like to pass on our condolences to The Moore family on the passing of Pad and to Denise and Mike Sheehan and family on the death of Jack Fitzgerald .Treoraíonn mo sholas eitneach iad chun na bhflaitheas.
