Under 21 Hurling

Brickey Rangers 6-19 Tallow 0-3

Depleted by injury and thoroughly outclassed on the night, we exited the under 21 championship last Friday evening. Those who played on the night put in a decent effort and up the middle we had a few strong performers but overall the men from the Brickeys were physically a long way ahead of us. Results don't lie and this must be viewed as strong evidence that the policy of going it alone at this level is not a viable option in the short to medium term. I accept that it is not a simple matter to solve with our neighbouring club but surely there is no harm in having a few meetings at this stage of the year and seeing what comes from them. If it is left to the last minute again, positions will harden and the same result will ensue.

Stefan Tobin had two points for us from frees in the first half and Noel Condon had a point from play in the second half.

County Final

As someone said there won't be a fish milked in Passage for the week and with the shadow of the Bolger tragedy hanging over the village it's a reminder of both the importance and triviality of sport to see the way the Passage crew celebrated on Sunday. They rode their luck at times but they showed the value of sticking to a plan and keeping hurling even when things are stacked against you. They also showed the value of good decision making as they could have easily started trying for goals earlier but they kept chipping away at the Ballygunner lead until they had it down to a goal.
