Senior Hurling

Tallow 1-8 DLS 0-14

Tallow travelled to Fraher Field on Sunday last to play De La Salle in round two of the senior hurling championship. Starting without a few regular faces it appeared that they had it all to do to come out of this game on top. This didn't, however, deter a confident Tallow team. Special mention must be given to Mark Stewart who got his first senior championship start in goal. He held his own and was solid between the posts throughout. Tallow started by far the better of the two teams and registered 3 points before De La Salle got their first. Tallow's three came from Thomas Ryan and Robbie Geary, two frees and one from open play. De La Salle's first score came from a 21 yard free. Ryan Grey and Ian Beecher popped over two following this, Ian's point coming directly from a De La Salle puck out. A long ball in by Robbie Geary dropped in around the goal mouth. Thomas Daly was quickest to react and he kicked the ball into the De La Salle net. At this stage Tallow led 1-5 to 0-1 and were comfortably on top. De La Salle got the last three scores of the first half to put four between the teams. Tallow registered nine wides in the first half. This was inevitably going to come back to bite them. The second half was a completely different story. De La Salle outscored Tallow eight points to three, with only one of Tallow's three coming from play. Tallow's first score of the second half came after 15 minutes through a pointed free. De La Salle pointed a free of their own shortly after to put the sides level at 1-6 to 0-9. Going in to the last ten minutes both teams exchanged frees to remain on level pegging. De La Salle finished out the game with a further four to Tallow's one and were eventual winners on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-14.
