Senior Hurling : Tallow 1-16 Ballyduff 0-17

This relegation semi final between near neighbours Tallow and Ballyduff last Saturday in Fraher Field was always destined to be a close encounter given the recent form and past history of both teams.

Tallow seized the initiative at the outset and 3 points from the in form Darah Buckley and one from Ian Beecher had them 4-1 ahead after 12 minutes of play . Ballyduff countered well and played themselves back into contention . In fact at after 25 minutes of play the Village held a slender 1 point lead (9-8). They had whatever wind advantage was there and will possibly rue missed opportunities . Points were traded once again and by half time there as the minimum between the sides with Tallow to the fore.

On a couple of different occasions in the second half, tallow pushed their lead out to 4 points but Tallow rallied every time. The crucial score of the game after 50 minutes of play when Paul O'Brien, who turned in yet another fine performance in the blue and gold jersey, found the Ballyduff net.

Ballyduff, as is their want fought to the end scoring 3 points to Tallow's single effort from Ryan Grey. Tallow were two points to the good at the final whistle and thast was enough to see them retain senior status for the coming year. A relief to all no doubt but their form and preparations throughout the season suggested they were capable of more.

Normally the accolades go to the strike force in match reports but a few of our defenders are worthy of mention at this stage. Sully is sharp and a great shot stopper. He played his part. Seasoned campaigners Dave and Mark O'Brien were stalwarts throughout with middle brother Paul returning to form after a long spell out with injuries. Jordan Henley controlled the flow of the ball allowed into the Ballyduff full line and delivered quality clearances. It's always a good sign of a coach if he can improve players. Jake Beecher has grown in both confidence and stature and did an outstanding man marking job. He has slotted comfortably into the full back line, a tough ask of any young player. So too has Darah Buckley! His point taking has been very consistent from free and open play. He is much improved and had a good hour Saturday as well. Ian Beecher (who has excelled for club and county) and Ryan Grey are not short of hurling. These younger lads mentioned and others not mentioned must surely form the nucleus around which we build for the future. We would like to thank our panel of players at both junior and senior level.
