Value of the Defibrillator: A recent Nationwide program highlighted the reverence that the defibrillator has to ones life. The town was shocked a few years back when Tom Doyle took ill in the hall . Fast reaction by local first responders saved his life. The use of the defibrillator was brought into the spotlight by the sudden death of Cormac McAnalllen . So as a community and club it is vital to have enough trained first responders to respond to any sudden incident .

The Tackle : Watching the interview of both Donal Óg and Shane Dowling on Saturday night surely the most reasoning thought on the tackle that Croke Park should emphasis would be to tackle with both hands on the hurley. No need of the outlawed handed rugby styled tackle then.

Lotto: As its a Bank Holiday lotto results will appear in next week's notes.

Cobhrán: CLG Tulach an Iarainn would to pass on our condolences to Colin and Mary Sice on the passing of Mary's mother Mary Madden.

Here is the second part of my Barry Power Interview.

How long did it take for you to establish yourself as number one for Tallow?BP: A while. Like any young fella, I thought it was only a matter of time before I got on the senior team. A conversation with a former manager motivated me more again and I got my first championship start in 03.

Did you spend any summers abroad in your adulthood? BP: During college yes, 99 in Boston, 2002 in Czech Republic. Can’t remember missing much, that’s when the club season began to have the four month summer holiday .

What coaching or advise had you been given to play in goals? BP: Lots of tips from Ned, mostly about positioning and concentration. Kevin O Sullivan was great too, brought a lot of drills from soccer

The best Tallow game you played in? BP: I loved the Abbeyside drawn game in 09. A summer evening in Cappoquin, a last second goal from Paul O Brien, a disputed goal line clearance from Kenny and a front row seat to yourself and Gary Hurney scourging

You took over from Martin Murphy. You also had to compete with John Cunningham, Benny O'Brien, John Paul Grey and Shaun O'Sullivan. How did you find the competition? BP: Good fun and banter, we all got on well

You only senior medal was a division 2 medal? Did you think you'd acquire more.?

BP: Yeah of course. We were at a good level 05 to 09. A break here and there could have tipped the balance. That was at a time when Ballygunner weren’t the behemoth they are now

So you got a start in 03. 04 with Teddy coaching has some memorial moments and a bad collapse against Lismore in the quarter final. Any insight into both years. BP: 03 was when we made a stride forward after a few years in relegation. Teddy was interesting. He had a mentality of ‘why wouldn’t Tallow win something?’ He overtrained us before the Lismore game though, you’d swear he was on a ‘per session’ rate!

What full back lines have you played behind? BP: Mostly O Briens, McCarthys and Kearneys

Your father had a great intercounty career but for Tallow people he is probably nearly remembered more as a coach. From the Gormanstown school to winning counties. His technical expertise would make like the godfather of modern coaching.. Hurling's answer to Dick Fitzgeralds football..

Have you any ambitions yourself to be a coach? BP: No my brother Eamonn got the coaching/teaching genes and talent. Sadly he’s in Tipp

Did you ever play on the same team as your brother Éamonn? BP: No

In many a challenge game you shouted to leave a ball off and on occasion it flew into the roof of the net. Your radar was off.. BP: Especially when the helmets came in! It took me about six months to see a ball in the air

Had you any disputes with managements? BP: Easier to list the managers I didn’t have a dispute with...I always thought I was right, looking back they can’t all have been wrong!

You throw a right hook in a league game below in the field to rival George Foreman. Was there a career in boxing? BP: That right hook started on Saturday and landed on Sunday. I was just lucky Dan or Brian didn’t see me

Did you play any football? BP: Only underage

You often trained with one blue and one green sock. Did you ever find the missing pairs? BP: No but James Beecher presented me with a blue sock one night after training. A touching moment .

You are a dentist by profession. You never wore a gum shield or helmet until they were compulsory. BP: I didn’t, madness when I look back now. Goalkeepers didn’t wear helmets. I never questioned it, just went along for reasons I can’t explain.

Have you ever looked at other sports to improve your own game? BP: Kevin O Sullivan would have brought drills from soccer goalkeepers. Towards the end I would have done more core and flexibility, should have started way earlier

You were in and out of the team after 2004 but made in back for 2008. It was our first semi final appearance since 1991 but you were back on the bench for the last two games.. BP: Yeah I’d a poor game in the last group game and paid the price and also Sully was coming through

Have you meet any of the 59 team? BP: Austin Walsh, Frankie, Cheasty and Joe Harney. They would have been the four he was closest to. I’ve met Larry Guinan a few times in Waterford the last few years, still in flying form well into his eighties. I remember Cheasty being in our house in the summer of 2007. They were both in poor health but in good spirits. Within a year they were both gone

What was the best score you have seen a Tallow man get? BP: Most of them belong to Tommy Ryan. The one off the Hurley against Mount Sion about 6/7 years ago after getting half-killed on the way in was a highlight

Have you ever gotten injured in goals? BP: Broken nose three times. It’s about as straight as Rock Hudson now

How did the long commutes affect your game? BP: Hard to say. One of the best years I had was when I was travelling from the Uk

From thinking you were finished after 08 to finishing 09 having your best year. You conceded four goals in seven championship games. Caught many balls under the crossbar. As Paul McCartney sang 'Satisfaction guaranteed???? BP: Yeah and we had a chance that year. Ballyduff beat us in a quarter final and they got every break going, Adrian Power saving a goal with his face and Seamus Hannon scoring points from impossible angles.
