On behalf of Tallow GAA Club we extend our deepest sympathies to the Cunningham family of Convent Street Tallow on on the sad passing of Phyllis (Bridget) Cunningham. She was of course from a prominent Tallow GAA family with her late father Jimmy and brother Eddie being familiar to all in the GAA community.

An Tostal, The Tallow Gathering

The man from Bracken and Miller's Crossing may not be a fan of Gatherings but this weekend sees a celebration of the families and friends of Tallow both at home and abroad as we celebrate the 400th birthday of Tallow (our charter was given by King James I in 1613) and we will also pay tribute to one of the great Tallow men of our era, Michael Prendergast.

On Thursday the Tallow Tostal will be launched in the Arch Ballroom by well known historian Julian Walton (of WLR 'On This Day' renown) at 8pm with items on display relating to Tallow's heritage. The following evening Tallow will play county champions De La Salle in the Sergeant Cup for the Mike Prendergast Trophy at 7 30 in Tallow. We are very grateful to De La Salle for agreeing to this refixture as this match was originally fixed for Cleaboy but De La Salle very kindly offered to travel up to us to assist in our Gathering weekend.

Saturday has been designated Michael Prendergast day as we honour a man revered in Tallow and the Bronx, Michael Prendergast. A hugely influential figure in the Irish American community and New York GAA community for over forty years, he is a man whose service to the dozens of Tallow men and women who emigrated to the Big Apple is incalcuable and they always found a welcoming hand of friendship at the corner of Webster Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard. Earlier on in the day at 3pm there will be a historical walking tour of Tallow, starting from the square, where you will have a chance to meet a version of King James I (in a very masculine performance). At 8pm the new school road will be renamed after Michael

Prendergast before a tribute night in the community centre starting at 9pm with music by the Pete Rivers band and entry is €10.

On Sunday there is busking in the street from 3-6 pm followed by live outdoor music on stage with Tony Dunne and the Butterfly Band. The weekend will be rounded off on Monday with a family fun barbeque at Clancy's Bar from 3-6:30
