From all at Tallow GAA Club we congratulate Brideview United AFC on their 40th Anniversary which they will celebrate in style with an evening of music, dance and craic this Saturday night May 12th in Tallow Community Centre. From small acorns forty years ago, they have built a proud club with superb facilities and we wish them every success in the future.

Senior Hurling

Tallow 2-16 Dunhill 1-13

We got off to a winning start in our senior campaign with a hard-fought victory over last year's intermediate champions Dunhill. The challenge from the easterners was every bit as tough as we expected and it was only in the final ten minutes that we pulled away. Dunhill's forward division showed pace and strength to register some skilful scores all through but our defence showed its class and experience to shut up shop in the final stages.

We got off the mark early with a Rob O Sullivan free before Dunhill struck for two quick points to give them a narrow advantage after five minutes. A point from our James Murray, newly positioned at centre-forward, levelled matters with a Dunhill point then reestablishing their one point advantage. Sean O Sullivan's excellent save from a 21 yard free kept the goalline intact as his younger brother continued to show nerveless accuracy from placed balls, most of which were won as a result of Thomas Ryan's excellent work, with two further points. Another point from Evan Sheehan stretched our lead to two but Dunhill were in no mood to let us build on that as they fired over three successive points to lead again. The teams swapped points before Tallow blitzed the Dunhill defence for two goals and a point in the space of four minutes, the goals excellently finished by Thomas Ryan and Evan Sheehan. We seemed to be comfortable with a six point lead approaching the interval but Dunhill showed character to fight back again and got a goal and a point before halftime to leave only two points in it at the break, Tallow leading by 2-7 to 1-8.

Dunhill showed their intent by registering the first point of the second half to narrow the gap further. Rob O Sullivan simply couldn't miss from the placed ball and he shot over two more frees in between a pointed free from Dunhill. Evan Sheehan's second point from play pushed us into a three point lead after ten minutes of the second half. Dunhill kept in touch with a point from play and from a free either side of an excellent Paul O Brien point to leave just two points between the sides with twelve minutes to go. It was then that our forward line started to motor and our defence held firm as Thomas Ryan was yet again fouled for a brace of Rob O Sullivan frees and Evan Sheehan showed no sign of slowing down with two further points to stretch our lead coming into the home straight. There was still time for another O Sullivan free before the end as the Dunhill challenge finally faltered.

Team: S O Sullivan, K Kearney, D O Brien, A Kearney, A Pratt, M O Brien, W Henley, K O Brien, K Geary, E Condon, J Murray (0-1), R O Sullivan (0-9 frees), E Sheehan (1-4), P O Brien (0-2), T Ryan (1-0). Sub L White for E Condon.

We move on to face Roanmore next Saturday evening May 12th in Dungarvan. While the Dunhill game gave us many positives, Roanmore are a different challenge and after putting it up to us last year will show no fear of the Tallow jersey. Throw-in is at 7:30 and your support as always would be greatly appreciated.
