Annual General Meeting

The AGM of CLG Tulach an Iarainn took place last Friday evening in the clubhouse and was well attended and efficiently chaired. It was encouragiing to see a full room of attendees and especially to see a lot of the younger players in attendence.

The meeting started with the reading of last year's minutes by our excellent secretary Lindsay Murphy which were accepted unanimously. Mairead Sheehan then gave her treasurer's report which, in her usual detailed manner, gave account of income and expenditure throughout the year. It showed that, while the club was in a healthy financial position overall, the issue of costs was a major one to be tackled in the year ahead with income declining slightly compared to 2011. We remain heavily dependent on our club lotto through the continuing generosity of the people of Tallow to fund our day-to-day spending.

Our Club Lotto secretary Timmy Sheehan gave an excellent report into their finances and efforts throughout the year. It showed that income through ticket sales was down (due to economic circumstances and the absence of a big jackpot in 2012) but overall it is still a great source of funding for the club. This is Timmy's last year as secretary of the Lotto after ten years of selfless service and member after member thanked him for his effort, time and professionalism in maintaining our Lotto as a great resource. Whoever will come into the job will have huge boots to fill.

In his report, Deise Draw coordinator David O Brien talked of a fifteen percent decline in the balance of the account due to the use of this account to fund the county board levy. He also made the pertinent point that the format and marketing of the draw had become stale and needed a revamp.

In his chairman's report, Denis Tobin was glad to see the club in a relatively healthy position and talked of the future with a development plan and a five-year plan in the pipeline. He expressed sympathy to the Curley and Mulcahy families on the passing of two of our club vice-presidents, Babs Mulcahy and Josie Curley. Reporting on playing matters, he reported that our adult hurling teams did not reach the heights of 2011. The junior hurling team suffered from emigration and had to field a lot of young players and our senior team was also cut back by injury and emigration. He also drew attention to the poor attendance at senior hurling training. He expressed confidence that a new year would bring more consistency and success to the hurling field. He praised the junior football team for providing us with the highlight of the year, their victory in the Western final and march to the county final. He expressed thanks to all management and coaching staff of the club for their efforts throughout the year. He also thanked the committee, medical staff, sponsors and all who helped out during the year.

The election of officers was followed by a wide-ranging discussion on club matters before the meeting was concluded
