Junior Hurling Semi Final Tallow 0-13 Ballyduff 2-14

It's like deja vu struck for the the third consecutive year as Tallow's juniors exited the championship at the semi final stage. Good victories in our last group stages weren't matched in the following knock out stages on each occasion.The match started and Mark Stewart converted a 65 with a minute on the clock. Ballyduff responded with 1-2 without reply and the goal conceded would go down as on the softish side. Mikey Curley and Jake Neville responded with two nice points both of the right hand side of our attack. With eleven minutes gone and good interplay from our defence lead to Mark receiving the ball fifty yards out, his solo run had him angling away from the goals to the corner but from thirty five yards off his left he struck a lovely point.He added two points from placed balls in the twelfth and thirteenth minutes to have us trailing 0-6 to 1-4. Noel Condon who was playing a stormer up to this point, caught a great aerial ball and struck a eighty yard monster minor to tie the game up. Ballyduff added a free before the game was stopped for the first water break.

Good tenacious tackling by Will Cunningham had him retrieve a ball he had no right in winning, the ball broke and we won a free which Mark converted. He added one more in injury time and as the half time whistle blew we trailed by the 0-10 to 1-9.

The opening minutes of the second half are ones we would not look back with glee. A goal line mix up results in a goal. Ballyduff responded with a point. Five points down wouldn't be an insurmountable lead to close down but too many of our players were under performing. That could not be asserted to the right hand side of our defense in the second period. . Will Cunningham continued to hurl tigerishly and outside him Noel Condon continued on from his cameo roll against the Brickeys in his assertiveness and strength on the ball. James Murray does want he does well, he battles, he leads and let's his hurling do the talking.

Our opening score of the second half came from a Mark free on thirty nine minutes.Three minutes later Eric Hickey on as blood sub was hauled down for what seemed a penalty. The 21 yard free given for pulling the ball out of the hand was saved and the rebound was pulled agonizingly over the bar by Kevin Henley. Brian McCarthy struck our last score of the evening on fifty minutes. The rain billowed from the sky and the dampness did little to quell our thirst for victory. We can had no excuses here, three points in the second half will not win you games. We were beaten by a fit, youthful and skillful team.

We played some good hurling this year and can be pleased with a lot of aspects of our game. For this team to progress there is only one way they can improve and that is down in the field. We would like to thank James, Trevor, Sean and all those who helped the team this year.

Deise Draw: The Deise Draw commences next week, with COVID restrictions and a limited number of people allowed enter the draw the tickets have to be in by this Sunday. Tickets are priced at €90 for the year or €15 a month. €10.50 of every €15 is retained by the club. This is a vital component in the running of our club. We have been and we will be Facebook messaging, WhatsApp messaging, texting, ringing and calling to people’s houses in the hope of generating your support for the draw.

Top prize is €10, 000 which we won the jackpot last year. Second is €4,000, then €2,000, 2 x€1,000, 2 x €500, 4 x €250, 12 x €100 plus vouchers and specials.
