Essential Questions:

  • Can you customize animations, transitions, sounds, images,

  • within a presentation?

  • Can you show your sources and create hyperlinks to web sources?

  • Can you organize your research effectively to create a presentation?

For this project, you will create a slideshow with information, data, and photos that show the impact of a natural disaster like a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, tornado, volcano, or flood. Your slideshow will consist of at least 10 slides. First, you will do some research about natural disasters, choose the disaster you will use, and then collect information. It will be important to put the information into your own words and cite the sources of your information.1. Go to the Internet and do some research on famous natural disasters. You have 15 minutes to choose the disaster you will research. I have a list below. 2. When you have chosen your topic you need to find out the following information. You can put this information into a word processing document or just take notes on paper. You will also need photos of the disaster. Remember to record names and addresses of the websites where you found the information.

  • For your title slide – name of the disaster, date of the disaster, and your name

  • Where and when did the disaster occur

  • What were the facts and or characteristics of the disaster? Describe the disaster

  • How many people were injured and/or killed? What kind of property was damaged and what was the cost of the damage?

  • Photo examples and description of the type of problems that occurred because of the disaster.

  • Who was in charge and what did they do to help people during the disaster?

  • Changes that are happening to improve the situation with similar future disasters.

3. Once you have your information open up PowerPoint and begin creating your presentation. Be sure you choose a background and a layout that allow for a picture on each slide. Be sure to save often.

4. Your final slide should be titled: Information for this report was collected from: then list your sources. Create hyperlinks and have the text shown by the name of the page you used.

5. Now go back and add an animation and some sounds to your slides. When you think you are finished show Mr. French your presentation then Hand it in to Haiku.
