Plan keywords to search for referenced on the internet
Write in the margins and take notes regarding chosen relevant articles.
Show their ability to plan and research a topic provided by a teacher.
This is the first part of a two-part The 6th Grade Internet Research Project. Half of writing a research essay is your ability to prepare for it. Before you even start to write, you need a plan. A Thesis statement is formed from your topic. You then locate references to aid in your providing information. Many times the writer starts off exploring an idea or question and ends their paper having learned something new.
The topic of your project is:
Educators often discuss whether middle school sports have a positive influence on students. Some educators think middle school sports do have a positive influence because the lessons learned from athletic competition add to the lessons learned in the classroom. Other educators think Middle school sports do not have a positive influence because the emphasis on sports often overshadows student achievement in other areas. In your opinion, do middle school sports have a positive influence on students?
Directions
1. You will need to open a google doc in your Digital Literacy folder and change the title to Middle School Sports.
2. In this document, create your Thesis sentence. Make sure you have Identified the topic, Stated your opinion, and provided three general reasons you believe your opinion. Hit enter twice and type the keywords you are now going to use for your internet searching.
3. You are expected to locate two (2) web pages that you will use for reference. Print them to a PDF and save it to your computer. You will then need to move the PDF to your google drive Digital Literacy folder so you can open it in DocHub. These two articles must show evidence of you writing in the margins. Notes, thoughts, reactions, and keywords highlighted.
4. You must hand in your two web pages, with notes from DocHub as well as your Middle School Sports google doc to show your thesis statement.
5. This is half your grade, 50 out of a total 100, so use today and tomorrow wisely. This becomes homework on your Chrome Book if not finished.
