Essential Question:

  • Why is it important to understand the basics of creating a word processing document?

  • Why is it important to be able to change margin sizes, styles, paragraph spacing, etc?

  • How can I document research and summarize the material in my own words?

What will we be learning?

  • Header and Footer

  • Inserting word art and work with title boxes

  • Using multiple columns.

  • Changing size and type of font.

  • Format Painter

  • Ruler usage

  • Paragraph editing

Direction:

1. Download a copy of Frigid Facts and save it as Activity 4 your last name.

2. Double click the top of the paper to type your name and period number. Click the bottom of the page and put page numbers in the middle of the paper. Your name and the page number now show up on both pages.

3. Under the Insert tab, click Word Art. Click a style from the drop down menu.

Click on the Word Art box and type (History of Ice Cream) and click and drag the word art box to the middle of the top. Use the green lines to guide your placement.

4. Select all the text in the document. Make sure you don't include the Word Art box. Under the page layout tab and select two columns.

5. Select the title (History of Ice Cream and change the font to Cooper Black and size 14 font. Turn on the underline.

6. This part is tricky. Select History of Ice Cream then click Format painter.

Drag across the titles of each section of the article. After you drag across, it will change to what you want and stay selected. Click Format Painter again and drag across the next section title.

7. Select the (15 Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors section. Under paragraph. Use the borders drop-down menu to select borders and shading.

Select Box and have it apply to the paragraph using the apply to drop down menu. Click ok.

8. With the 15 Most popular flavors still selected, use the ruler to move the left marker to the 2.5 in a spot on the ruler. This will adjust the how wide the box is.

9. Insert pictures of related to the article. Two pictures per page. Use wrap text behind and make sure the picture doesn't interfere with the article. Make sure you using Creative Commons only. Those pictures are free for the public to use. Any other picture you may not own and have permission to use. Resize the clip art as needed.

10. Save it as Activity 4 your last name. If you haven't already and show it to your teacher. Hand into Haiku.
