Foley Sound
A common career in the audio production industry is creating and incorporating sound effects into existing videos to make them seem more realistic and interesting. This type of job is called a Foley Artist. At the time of filming, the emphasis was on the visuals with enhancing the sound later. Sounds that were not recorded very well with the camera mic or boom mic are recreated and added.
Virtually every movie you've ever seen uses sound effects created by a Foley artist. Many times sounds are recreated with a substitute that is so good, audiences can't tell the difference.
In this project, you will become a Foley Artist as you add real-life sound effects to an otherwise silent nature video. The goal of the sound effects is to make the video more realistic and entertaining - reaching more of the viewers' senses and capturing the audience more effectively. Using WeVideo, you will be layering the sound on top of one another using multiple tracks.
Watch the 2 min video clip in WeVideo or click the Foley Artist Video Clip to see what you have. You will see a nature scene with water, animals, a train traveling through the mountains, and an airplane flying into the sunset. Reflect on the many "unseen" sounds you would hear. Also included on the right are some sound effects that will be helpful to loop and that work well with the given video. You are to incorporate sound effects and background music into the video to help it appear more realistic. You can find additional sound effects online or in the Audio folder of WeVideo to add more realism to your project. Remember your audio levels should all sound the same, but that your background music should be low in the background and not overpower your natural sounds. You will also need to have some sounds fade in and later fade out.
Don't forget to change the name of your edit from "My Video" to your name Foley Video. Changing the media view from thumbnail to list view is helpful because you are dealing with audio clips and the label of the audio clip is what is important.
