Homer’s Budget

1. Open Excel and save as Activity 4. Type the following data (you can make a cell wider if all the data is not displayed)

2. Fill in the total row for the total money spent each month. Use Auto Sum tool to create your equations. Remember to click the cell you want the number to go. B8, C8, D8, E8, F8, G8. Make sure you are adding the correct cells.

3. In the H Column, use the same tool to put in H3 the average of the money spent each month. Fill in for the other expenses and make sure you are averaging the correct cells.

4. Select Cells H3 to H7. In the Home tab, look for the number. Click and Decrease the Decimal point to you have two places.

5. Select A3 to A-8 and copy it. Paste it at A-12. You should see all expenses show up in A12 to A17. Hit escape removing the blinking box around your expenses. This shows you what you have copied.

6. Copy the Average scores in H3 to H7. When you paste them in B12 notice the different paste options. Make sure you paste Values.

7. Select A12 to B17 Insert a Bar Graf. Move it to a new sheet.

8. Go to your chart and click the chart title. Change it to Homers Budget. Add Chart elements on the far right. You are adding Axis titles.

  • Primary Horizontal – Title Below Axis – Cost of Items

  • Primary Vertical – Rotated Title – Items in Budget

9. On Sheet 1 and complete the following steps.

  • Select cells A1 through G1.

  • Hold down the control key and select cells A6 through G7. This lets you select additional data.

  • Insert a line graph with the information you have selected.

  • Move Chart to a new sheet. It will be called Chart 2

  • Change the title to Homer’s Expenses

  • As with the other chart, create axis titles.

  • Primary Horizontal "Months"

  • Primary Vertical "Dollar Amounts Each Month."

10. Save as Activity 4 and hand in to Haiku
