Who Would You Hire?

We evaluated the Trillion Dollar Footprint. The data we create with our internet activity has grown tremendously since it became portable. It isn't just interested in our spending habits but what we find interesting and we express our interest in using the internet. We are quickly approaching a world where your actions can have unintended consequences. Your ability to join a club, participate in a sport, or join an online group can be influenced by the data you or someone else provides to the internet. Facial recognition software can pick you out thousands of pictures and videos others have taken and when connected to a database can even locate the person. Redlight camera systems track the license plate of a violating car and issue tickets to the owner.

China is testing a social program where it uses surveillance, facial recognition, and social media to issue consequences and rewards based on the actions of citizens. Investigators of a crime will collect video from every person's cell phone and surveillance device to recreate the events and target suspects.

The technology exists for schools to have computers document students who are running in the halls, issue consequences, and send parents videos of the event. The collection of this data could then be used to exclude students from activities.

That being said, when you apply to join a club or sports team, seek employment, or even buy something, your personal data, as well as data collected based on your activities, may be taken into account.
