Essential Question:

    • How can spreadsheets be used to communicate data effectively?

U.S. States project

Activity: For this project, you will create a spreadsheet with information about the various states of our country. Use the Internet to discover each State, the year it became a state, the capital, and one interesting fact.

1. Open Microsoft Excel 2013.

2. In cell A1 type - Year it became a state, in cell B1 type – Name, in cell C1 type – State Capital, in cell D1 type – One interesting fact. Resize cells so that information fits.

3. Open Internet Explorer or Chrome. Search for information 22 of the 50 states that are part of the United States. Be sure to check several reliable websites. You can flip back and forth between your sites and the spreadsheet. DO NOT copy and paste the information it will look messed up. Resize cells so that information fits.

4. Once all of your information is entered sort column A so that the states are in order of entry into the union. Highlight column A. From the Home tab go to Sort and Filter. Sort smallest to largest.

5. Insert a header with the title – Presidential information – then your name.

6. Save as States and submit to Edmodo.
