Mystery Skype

About this Skype lesson

The concept is simple: classrooms Skype call each other and try to guess where the other classroom is located either in the United States or in the world.

On the day of the call, you will use their resources in trying to figure where the other class is calling from via Skype.

You will be broken up into teams. You work with your team to track the answers and questions from other teams to help you form your own questions. When it's your turn, you send your representative to the camera to ask your team's question. You also will answer the questions from the other class.

Before the call: We need to review where we live. Review the information below and make sure you can answer them.

  • What is the capital of Illinois?

  • What states share a border?

  • What is the time zone of our state?

  • What part of the county do we live in?

  • What is our location in relation to other Illinois Cities?

  • What kind of weather is outside and how does it relate to what part of the country we are in.

  • What is our location in relation to the Great Lakes?

  • What is our location in relation to the two major oceans?

  • What major US Interstates cross threw our state?

  • What are major US Interstates near out school?

  • What are Illinois Roads near our school?

Next: We also brainstormed questions to possibly ask. We like the concept of the questions having to have yes or no answers as it makes the game a little harder.

Questions we came up with included whether they were in the United States, whether they were east of the Mississippi, Whether they were West of the Rocky Mountains, If they were in a specific region, whether they border other countries, whether they are landlocked etc.
