Another birthday today! This time it's Stan's. He's 78 and still going strong. His only major sign of age is the arthritis in his hands, which is now severely restricting his ability to lift and manipulate things. He was finding it particualrly frustrating that he couldn't open the bolts on his pigeon loft and had to ask one of us to help him each day when he came to fed them. That gave us an idea for a birthday present - always a difficult thing, becasue he's one of those "men who have everything".
We talked to Wayne and Dean about it and they came round a few weeks ago to have a look at the bolts and see if they could come up with a solution. Then today we got Sylvia to keep him busy at home in Cowley while the boys came over an fittted their new devices. They are spring-loaded in such a way that only a small force is needed to fasten and unfasten them. Stan was delighted when he came over for tea and found what we'd done. Then he said that he hoped the pigeons didn't work out how to open the doors for themselves - apparently they are some of the brightest birds and ery good at learning new skills.
