Well, here we are! We’re staying in a small-ish hotel overlooking Sefton Park. It was just starting to get dark by the time we got to Lime Street so we couldn’t see things properly from the taxi, but I’m surprised how difficult I found it to recognise things as we drove through parts of the city I used to know well. Of course, that was forty-odd years ago now and there’s been a lot going on since then – the riots and Michael Heseltine’s attempts at reviving the place and the European Capital of Culture year in 2008. Tomorrow, we’ll have a look round on foot and see if any of the Liverpool I remember is still there!
