It's Eva's birthday today. (Eva Riess is Martin's mother, in case you've forgotten. You can read about them both in Murder of a Martian.) she thinks she's coming round this evening to give Lucy an extra piano lesson, but we've got a special birthday celebration tea - with cake and candles and everything - prepared for her!
