While Peter heads off home on the train to celebrate little Abigail's 2nd birthday, jonah and I have been in St Helens helping Sandra Latham to interview Emily Armstrong, a Muslim revert who was one of the women who were attacked last Wednesday night. Unlike any other Muslim women that I know, she wears a niqab, which completely covers her face apart from a narow slit for her eyes. I suppose, like a lot of converts, she is tending towards extremes. I could see that her mother doesn't approve at all, and Sandra tells us that her father is even more antagonistic towards her new religion. I felt a bit sorry for her caught between wanting to express her Muslim-ness in the face of opposition from her parents and from her ex-boyfriend, whom we've had to add to our list of suspects in case his resentment at being dumped in favour of Islam and her new Muslim friends turns out to have motivated him to attack them. sandra showed her pictures of our other main suspects in case she recognised any of them, but she says not. So not really any progress with the case.
Dominic is making scouse for us all for tea this evening - at least, it'll be tea for all of us except Ibrahim who will have to wait for his untial after sunset.
