We took Aunty Dot to Sefton Park this morning, but we didn't stay as long as we intended because of the bitter wind and sporadic rain. After the wonderfully warm sunny weather over the Easter weekend, normal British Bank Holiday climatic conditions have resumed! I'm glad we took the precaution of wrapping Jonah and Dot up in warm rugs or they would have been frozen in their wheelchairs. Speaking of wheelchairs, Aunty Dot is a real menace in her new electric model - talk about careless driving!
She cornered poor Ibrahim and cross-examined him about his life-history, job and family. He was very forebearing and answered her very politely. I just hope she doesn't go too far in questioning Hibaaq when we meet her this afternoon. She's another medical student (in the year above Lucy) and a friend of Mariam and the other girls who were injured in the acid attack. At Aunty Dot's request, Lucy's arranged for us to meet her, so she can tell Dot all about it. Hibaaq's parents are from Somalia, but Hibaaq has lived all her life in South London - Croydon, I think, or maybe Streatham.
We're all going to meet up at the cathedral cafe after lunch, although I don't think Hibaaq will be able to eat or drink with us because Ramadan has started today. I was surprised to learn from Ibrahim that the exact day when Ramadan starts isn't known for certain until the new moon crescent is sighted. It was seen in Saudi Arabia yesterday evening, so the holy month officially started today (as expected). It makes me wonder what would happen if it was cloudy everywhere so that the moon couldn't be seen - or if it wasn't spotted until it got to Honolulu, so that Muslims in Australia had already missed the first day!
