We had another video call with Aunty Dot today. The resident from her Care Home who was admitted to hospital yesterday has tested positive for COVID-19. One of the other symptomatic residents is considerably worse today. Aunty Dot is still keeping cheerful and saying that, having reached her 100th birthday last year, she's had a good innings and if she does get it she can't complain. I know that she's right in a way, but I can think of a whole lot of less unpleasant ways to go!
According to Lucy, Ruth is going frantic at not being able to visit Dom, Chloe and Aunty Dot. She has finally downloaded Zoom on to her phone and eventually managed to have a conversation with Dom and Lucy. I've promised to have a go at videoconferencing with her and Joey so that she feels that she's keeping in touch with all the family. I wonder how her mum is? Rose isn't quite as old as Aunty Dot, but she must be getting on for ninety I should think - if not older.
Father Damien rang Peter this evening. I'm afraid this business is taking its toll on him. He'd been on chaplaincy duty at the hospital all day and wanted to have a chat with someone who isn't on the front line looking after seriously ill patients, or else worried that their loved ones are in ICU and they can't visit them.
Jonah is keeping well (thank goodness!) and seems more cheerful now that he's fixed on this memoir project of his. He's been picking Peter's brains over what he remembers of the case and trying to track down other retired colleagues who may be able to help.
