What a kerfuffle! I told you Dominic was on his way to stay with Mariam's family last Saturday, didn't I? Well, I've just had Joey on the phone to say that Dom and Mariam arrived at their house a few hours ago to announce that they're engaged! Of course, Ruth is running round like a headless chicken worrying about where they'll be married and what Father Nat will say. Joey wanted to now whether I'd seen it coming, which I can honestly say I hadn't, although looking back, I'm not that surprised. Then he waffled on about hoping it wasn't a dreadful disappointment for Lucy. She chimed in and told him that she couldn't care less and there's never been anything of that sort between her and Dom, whatever he and Ruth may have thought (or hoped!), I'm not sure that he was best pleased at the way she laughed at the idea that he'd imagined she would be disappointed at being passed over! I suppose it was as if she thought his son wasn't good enough for her.
I hope they manage to get things sorted OK. They're both nice youngsters and seem very compatible, even if Mariam is quite a bit younger than Dom. I told Joey to calm down and stop worrying. KLeft to himself, he probably would, but poor Ruth was dead set on her kids all marrying good Catholics (which I reckon would have ruled Lucy out in any case, if they thought about it for a moment!) so a Muslim is something of a challenge for her to accept.
