It was Jonah’s big day today – his opportunity to become a big TV star! A pleasantly-spoken young researcher called Bethan came round to interview him about his life in preparation for the real interview (with an unspecified celebrity host) on the Inspirational Lives programme.
He also got to choose eight hymns for them to play. We’d been guessing what he was going to choose for ages. We were right about two of them. In heavenly love abiding is a favourite of his and it was predictable that he’d want Abide with me in memory of Margaret, but I really wasn’t expecting You’ll never walk alone, which he claimed symbolised Lucy’s contribution to his rehabilitation after his injury, or O love that wilt not let me go. We really ought to have guessed that he’d have There’s a wideness in God’s mercy as a tribute to Wayne and Dean and if I thought about it, I knew that All praise to our redeeming Lord was another favourite that he and Margaret both liked. Peter was very touched by his choice of Angie’s favourite hymn, Dear Lord and Father of mankind, which took us all by surprise. Finally, he had a perfect argument for requesting Thou God of truth and love. If you want to know what it was, you’d better tune in when the programme goes out. That won’t be for some time. The recording is scheduled for July and then it’ll be a month or two before it’s broadcast.
