We had a videoconference with Lucy this evening. Mariam and the others joined in. Mariam and Ibrahim are clearly worried about their parents, who are both doctors at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. The deaths of two NHS doctors from COVID-19 were announced over the weekend, which has brought home to them the fact that this pandemic is for real and not all of us are going to survive. I'm sure that Fahima and Abdul (Mariam's mum and dad) must be glad that Ibrahim and Mariam are safely isolated in their house in Liverpool, rather than at home with them. Inevitably, they are going to be exposed to COVID-19 patients and there is always the (hopefully small) risk that they might bring the virus home with them on their clothes.
Ibrahim seemed very interested in the plan for Jonah to write up some of his cases, especially after we told him about Richard's diaries. He insisted on having some of the entries read out to him and has asked us to email the scanned pages to him. Perhaps he's feeling bored, with being stuck at home, unsure when his school will be able to open again. Jonah's more or less decided to start with a murder case from 1982. He says it's the first big case that he was allowed to do anything more than dull routine stuff in. In fact, to listen to his account, you'd think that both Richard and Peter were too self-absorbed to do much at all and Jonah was more or less running the show! Needless to say, Peter's recollection of events is somewhat different - although he does admit that he took some time off at the beginning of the enquiry when Eddie was born! Well, at least Jonah seems less restive as a result of having a project to work on.
