It's Candlemas today AKA The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. when I was a child, it was called the feast of the Purification of Our Lady. My Mam had a few choice words to say about that idea! She didn't hold with the idea of "Churching" women after childbirth and all that stuff! You can read all about it here: https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/calendar/day.cfm?date=2018-02-02. I wouldn't normally bother about it, but with Peter's entry into the Catholic Church coming up in a few weeks' time, he's been finding out about all sort of Catholic traditions and this one is quite significant for him, because the words at the base of the statue of Virgin and Child in St Cyprian's - the one that started his journey to Rome - are from Simeon's words to Mary: "and a sword shall pierce your own soul too."
