Lucy rang to tell us about a rather nasty incident that happened last night. Someone put a lit firework through the letterbox of their house. Fortunately the floor ofthe hall is tiled so there wasn't anything to catch fire, and they soon put it out with the fire extingusher from the kitchen; but it must have been quite scary fro them all.
At first, Lucy assumed that it was a silly prank played by kids larking around with fireworks left over from bonfire night; but Ibrahim reckons it's because someone doesn't like having Muslims living in their street. I think he's probably regretting having mention it now, because, of course, that absolutely incensed Lucy, who insisted on reporting it to the police as a religious hate-crime. The police came round and took statements and logged it as an incident, but they said they can't do much because there were no witnesses and no evidence to say who the perpetrator was.
It's a bit worrying to think that Lucy could be in danger if this were to escalate, but naturally she won't hear of any suggestion that she moves out - and I agree with her that sge's doing the right thing, sticking with her friends. Dom is keeping quiet about it, because he doesn't want his mum getting upset. Knowing Ruth, she'd probably see it is an opportunity to press hin to move back home with them! Let's just hope this is a one-off and not a sign of things to come.
