What a day for a drive up the M6! Storm Hannah blew in over night producing high winds and torrntial rain across Wales and Western England. The spray was awful on the motorway as I drove Lucy back up to Liverpool for her third term at university. I hope th weather improves before Thursday, when we're all going up to celebrate her birthday (on Friday) and to spend a long weekend visiting Aunty Dot and Cousin Joey and his family.

Mariam arrived back with her parents just as I was about to leave. They were a bit concerned about the anti-Muslim sentiment that has been stirred up by this latest attack on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka. Dominic was keen to assure them that Liverpool is the last place that you would expect any trouble. Ibrahim backed him up, saying that everyone is very accepting of difference and their mosque has a good relationship with both the police and the local churches. They're planning a big open-air public celebration on the waterfront during Ramadan. Everyone is invited to share in breaking their fast (called an iftar) - once the sun has gone down, of course! It sounds like a splendid idea. I'm just sorry that it's far to far for us to come up to share in it. Here's some more information about it: Taste Ramadan
