Peter took me to St Cyprian’s to meet Mary – by which he meant seeing the statue of the BVM that Lucy told me about. I’d seen it before, lots of times, but it was only when Peter drew my attention to it that I realised how much like Eddie the Christ Child is. It could easily have been modelled on some of the photos that we’ve got of Eddie as a toddler. That’s what attracted Peter to the statue in the first place, and then he seems to have had some sort of mystical experience of the BVM.
Anyway, the upshot was that he promised her that he’d look into becoming a Catholic if Abigail was found safe and sound. I teased him a bit, saying that he couldn’t have the mother of God without taking on God as well.
