Sorry for the lack of blog updates over the last couple of weeks. Father Damien persuaded us all to go on his "Parish Retreat" in a Retreat house run by Benedictene brothers. Ther were strict "no mobile phones or social media" rules to help us to concentrae our minds on spiritual matters! Well, there were some rather unspiritual goings-on, which I can't talk about at the moment, because some things are still sub judice. That will all have to wait for another time.
We got back to the news that a Thames Valley Police Constable had been killed while he was responding to a call about a burglary. I'm sure you will all have heard about it, but if not, you can read the full story here. We didn't know Andrew Harper personally, but Peter and Jonah know some of his friends and of course, we are all part of the Thames Valley Police family. It's all very sad and shocking. I suppose it's encouraging that one reason why the news has such shock-value is that this is the first police officer to be killed on duty since 2017, but that doesn't change the fact that assaults on officers are growing inceasingly common and serious. I must say, I'm glad that Peter and Jonah are retired (although Jonah is hankering after going back) and that CID is a relatively safe department compared with patrolling the mean streets.
Hey ho! Life must go on.
