Peter took some of our surplus raspberries round to Anna this afternoon – just an excuse to see how she’s doing – and most likely also to try to persuade her to let him add Donna to his childminding duties! She still hasn’t found a place in a day nursery and it won’t be long before she needs to come back to work full-time or else look for another career. Peter’s hopeful that Phil might come back. Apparently Phil has been making noises about that, but I’m not so sure it would work – not after he walked out like that and put pressure on Anna to have an abortion.
We’re no closer to finding the driver of the car that hit Wayne. Monica and Alice have been interviewing the usual suspects (boys from the Blackbird Ley estate) but there’s no real evidence against any of them. Of course, that pleases Jonah, who’s still persisting with his conspiracy theory.
He’s taken a day’s leave tomorrow, so as to do the Design Ability interviews with Graham, but he’s muttering about “just popping in to the station” before they start, so I have a feeling that it’s not going to be a day of rest for either of us! Graham and Dean came round this evening to discuss how the interviews are going to go. At Jonah’s suggestion, we’re going to do a bit of role-play with each of the candidates, before the formal interview. Jonah’s going to play the part of a customer with a complaint, and the candidates are going to have to approach him in the waiting room and try to sort things out for him. I’m going to be a random other person, who’s also waiting to be seen by someone from the firm. The idea is to make sure that the candidates are at ease speaking to someone in a wheelchair and don’t patronise him or treat him like a child. Dean seemed quite excited at the idea, and I think he’s even planning to be there himself after all – if he can just come to terms with not being at the hospital with Wayne for every moment that he’s allowed.
