Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

    • ¾ cup butter (170 grams), softened
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp salt

To Prepare

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth
  2. Beat in eggs and vanilla, then stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt
  3. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour
  4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C)
    1. Roll out dough, ¼ to ½ inch thick, on sugared or floured parchment paper
  5. Cut into shapes, about 1 inch apart, with any cookie cutter, then remove the scraps from around the shapes
  6. Slide the cookie-topped parchment paper onto ungreased baking sheets
  7. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven and cool completely on a wire rack
  8. Glaze with sugar cookie icing
