Ingredients for the Pie

    • 6 tart apples, pared and sliced (Granny Smith are a good apple choice)
    • ½ cup sugar
    • ¾ tsp cinnamon
    • 1 pie crust (perhaps from Pillsbury)

Ingredients for the Crumb Topping

    • ⅓ cup sugar
    • ¾ cup flour
    • 6 T (85 grams) butter

To Prepare

    1. Place the pie crust in a 9" pie pan, center, and flatten against the pan surface
    2. Use a fork to prick 8 small holes in the center of the pie crust
    3. Fold the edge of the pie crust backwards (away from the center of the pie) so that the top becomes thick, then use your fingers to crimp the edge all the way around
    4. Arrange apple slices in in the unbaked crust
    5. Mix the cinnamon and sugar, then sprinkle over the apples
    6. Bake 15 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit
    7. For the crumb topping, mix the sugar and flour, then cut in the butter. Press with a fork and stir until evenly blended and crumbly
    8. Sprinkle crumb topping over apples
    9. Drop the temperature of the oven to 350 degrees, bake an additional 40 to 45 minutes or until done.

Serve while still warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
