How can I make sure I am successful?
-Read a number story
-Understand what maths skills we are going to have to use (+ or/and -)
-Use our math skills to answer the questions by showing and explaining our strategies
Activity description/steps:
1.Click on the link to open the number stories DO NOT LOOK AT THE ANSWERS YET.
2.Read the questions sentence by sentence and work out what math skills you will need to use.
2.Use your addition and/or subtraction skills to answer the questions.
3.Show and explain HOW you answered each question to a family member.
Extras for early finishers
Write 1 or 2 math stories for a family member to solve. Use family members' names and real life things in your life.

Activity description/steps:
Today’s task is very simple.
Look at each number on the worksheet and say the number aloud.
If you are not sure, use someone to help, or the internet to support you.
Write each number in written form including every single world you hear when saying the number.
Record a video of you at the end reading each number out aloud.

How can I make sure I am successful?

-Use our comprehension skills to find and explain the answers to a text
Activity description/steps:
1.Click on the link and read the text about the topic, today it is Māori and about Tupaia. DO NOT READ THE ANSWER SHEET YET.
2.CHOOSE 1 or 2 of the question sheets and read the questions carefully.
3.Use the text to answer your questions.
4.Use the answer sheets to check your answers.

Research about today's topic and find 2-3 NEW facts that you can add onto your learning OR draw an image that represents today's learning i.e. Tupaia’s travels on a map or him on his waka in the Pacific.

Activity description/steps:
Read through the text and record yourself with a video camera, we love to see you trying to sound out new words.
The second time you read it, look for all of the keywords in the story.
Create a list of keywords.
Use a dictionary or online dictionary to find the definitions of any words you're unfamiliar with.

“Storm-clouds gathered all around him like a pack of wolves surrounding their prey. The tormenting threat of thunder echoed through the night air, as streaks of silvery lightning illuminated the darkness. The storm was far away, for now, but it still filled his heart with fear.
He had made it this far, but how would he survive the night? Would he ever see his family again?”
