Mailbox Addition
What am I learning?
To add 2 digit numbers using place value
How can I make sure I am successful?
-Split numbers into place value
-Add numbers using place value
-Regroup numbers and add them to get the answers
Activity description/steps:
1.Go for a safe distance walk with a responsible family member.
2.Take down the numbers of 6 letter boxes on your walk that have 2 digit numbers on them.
3.Split 2 of the mailbox numbers into 10’s and 1’s.
So 46 becomes 40 and 6 and 25 becomes 20 and 5
4.Add the 10’s 40 + 20 = 60 then add the 1’s 6 + 5 =11.
5.Then regroup your 10’s and 1’s for the answers so 60 + 11 = 71

Upload a picture of yourself on the walk taking down mailbox numbers OR add 3 boxes together using your place value splitting and adding skills

Play a couple of warm up game and connect with your siblings or friends online to learn Ratios
Read through the example of Ratios and have a go at the problem before reading the answer.

Activity description/steps:
1.Read the play I WANT TO BE ZIPPY to yourself for fluency so it will sound really good when you read it aloud. Use voices for the characters.
2.Read the play aloud to a family member really fluently so it sounds great and they understand.
3.Answer the 5 questions below
What is the teacher's name?
Why does Sonny get upset?
What does aggro mean?
A play is a type of story, what is the problem and the solution in this story?
Did you like this play? Why or why not?
4.Ask your family member 5 new questions about the play and see if they can get them all right!

Talanoa with your family - especially your older aiga and listen to their cultural ways of making things.

What am I learning?
EDITING - to edit our writing in our story
How can I make sure I am successful?
EDIT our story for making sense, punctuation and spelling
Activity description/steps:
1.Re-read our awesome story aloud that we wrote yesterday and see if it makes sense. Put in or takeaway any words that are needed to make sure it makes sense.
2.Check our writing for punctuation. Does it need capitals, full stops, commas or other parts of punctuation?
3.Check your writing for spelling mistakes. Use a dictionary or sound it out again to make sure you have all the letters for the words.
4.Use a red pen to EDIT if you have one so that your corrections stand out when you go to PUBLISH tomorrow.
5.Ask a family member to assess your writing to make sure you have edited your story for sense, punctuation and spelling.
Extras for early finishers
Write a paragraph (2-3 sentences about the same thing) with 5 mistakes in it and get a family member to EDIT it. See if they can fix your 5 mistakes.

*Use an ‘Edit & Enhance’ card to improve my writing style.
How can I make sure I am successful?
*Read my work out loud / to a buddy.
*Complete my editing card to self/peer assess my writing.
Activity description/steps:
Read your writing from yesterday out loud or to someone to receive feedback.
Look at the Edit & Enhance writing cards and complete the first one of the left for each aspect. For better editing, get a family member or friend to complete the second one and give your feedback.
