Activity description/steps:
The number for 0 in Chinese is ling
Today you will be playing Dáduìle using Mandarin
This version can be played in different ways and I will show you how to play 2 ways
Use the Mandarin numbers from the previous day to help you
Draw a grid like the one here
Choose 6 random numbers for each box from 0-10 like this
You will need someone to call out the numbers and at least 2 players or more to play
Version one - The caller will need to write the numbers down on a paper and call out the numbers in Mandarin. As each random number is called, you need to cross this off their list
If you get a Dáduìle meaning you have covered or circled all the numbers on your grid, you need to call out the words ’Daduìle’ and read you numbers back in Mandarin
Version 2 - Write the numbers down on card using Chinese like this
The caller will use Mandarin this time

Task 9 will provide you a number (input) and a rule. Your task is to use those two clues to come up with your answer (output)
Task 10 Create five of your own diagrams with 4 ‘input’ numbers and a rule.
Task 11 Work out the rules that would go in the boxes between these input / output numbers. All of these rules involve only adding or subtracting
Task 12 Create five of your own rules and use them to create 4 input / output numbers, drawing diagrams as above. Exchange your 5 diagrams with a classmate, so that they can work out your rules.
This is best completed on a piece of paper and a pencil.

How can I make sure I am successful?
Know Chinese for high and low
Use numbers 0-10 in Chinese
Activity description/steps:
If you are familiar with the high/low game also known as what’s my number? You are one step ahead of the game
The first thing you need to know is the words for high = gao de and low = di de (pronounced gao de = gow dah and di de = dee dah)
Firstly choose a number from 0-10
Write your number discreetly on a paper
Ask someone to guess the number you have written
Remember you can only use the words gao de or di de so make sure you tell the people you are playing with the meaning before you begin
