Scavenger Hunt
What am I learning?
*to develop my own personal benchmark for measures of 1 cm and 10 cm
How can I make sure I am successful?
*I understand how long 1 cm and 10 cm are
*I have found 10 objects of each length
*I have answered the 3 questions afterwards
Activity description/steps:
If you have a ruler, awesome! If you don’t, no worries. Take a good look at how long 1 cm is below. (The picture also shows you how to measure it on your ruler.)
Once you are comfortable with the length, you’re then going to go on a scavenger hunt for 10 items around your house (or outside) that measure to 1 cm. You’re going to try to estimate it first! Make sure to write the items down in the table. Once you have found 10 items, then you can measure with your ruler for accuracy.
How accurate were you? Were your guesses too big or too small? What’s a way that can help you remember how long 1 cm is? Answer these questions on the same sheet of paper you wrote your items on.
A helpful hint: put your finger up next to it. See how long 1 cm is from the tip of your finger, until the second line. Use that as your reference if you don’t have a ruler.
Once you have completed that, you’re going to do the same thing, but for 10 cm long. Fill out the table and answer the questions.
Good luck! Make sure to send it to your teacher so they can mark.

Create a Christmas Story!
What am I learning?
*to create a unique Christmas story
How can I make sure I am successful?
*I have chosen a character, time, setting, and conflict
*I have brainstormed using the template
*I have written minimum 5-7 sentences
Activity description/steps:
Christmas is fast approaching! What a fun way to get in the spirit by doing some story writing. This activity allows you to be the author of your own Christmas story. You are to roll a dice (if you don’t have one, no need to fret! Just pick whichever boxes you like best) to figure out what character, time, place and conflict/plot you’ll be writing about. Remember, you’ll also need a title.
Once you’ve chosen the four items that will be in your story, start brainstorming. Use the template to help you. You can make your story funny, sad, exciting, whatever you want! It’s your story! Try to incorporate as many Christmas words/characters/events as you can.
Make sure to send it to your teacher once you’ve completed it. I’m sure they’d love to read what you come up with.
