To read and use our comprehension and mathematical skills to answer number stories
How can I make sure I am successful?
-Read a number story
-Understand what maths skills we are going to have to use (+ or/and -)
-Use our math skills to answer the questions by showing and explaining our strategies
Activity description/steps:
*Last week you gave some feedback about math and said you would like to work on mathematical/algebraic problems. For the next 3 days here are some number stories where you will have to work out and use your maths knowledge and strategies to understand and explain the answers.
1.Click on the link to open the number stories DO NOT LOOK AT THE ANSWERS YET.
2.Read the questions sentence by sentence and work out what math skills you will need to use.
2.Use your addition and/or subtraction skills to answer the questions.
3.Show and explain HOW you answered each question to a family member.
Extras for early finishers
Write 1 or 2 math stories for a family member to solve. Use family members' names and real life things in your life.

Think about the strategies you know which will help you with these questions.
Activity description/steps:
This year you would have learned a combination of multiplication, addition, subtraction and division strategies. These two maths problems require you to find a strategy you know and use it to find the correct answer!
Write down all the numbers you need to and write down the strategy you use. Share your method and your strategies with your teacher/peers. How did you get to your answer?

Activity description/steps:
*Last week you gave some feedback about reading and wanted to read about and respond to certain topics, animals, history and Māori. For the next 3 days we have a bit of each for you to read about, explore and expand your knowledge and skills on these topics.
1.Click on the link and read the text about the topic, today it is history and about the Treaty of Waitangi. DO NOT READ THE ANSWER SHEET YET.
2.CHOOSE 1 or 2 of the question sheets and read the questions carefully.
3.Use the text to answer your questions.
4.Use the answer sheets to check your answers.

*Last week you gave feedback about writing and expressed that you were interested in writing letters/cards/messages to family. Let's use our sentence and paragraph learning, combined with a reflection of the year and show our thanks and gratefulness to our fanau.

2.Use the writing process you will need to follow the writing process so that you produce amazing writing.
3.Follow this structure to ensure you have special and meaningful messages in your Christmas letters/cards.

To write a gratitude letter to someone you are thankful for!
How can I make sure I am successful?
Include all the important requirements of a letter outlined in the activity description.
Activity description/steps:
This has been a bit of a strange year. I know there are people who have helped me and I would love to say thank you to them! Who has helped you this year? Do you have a friend or family member who always checks in to see how you are? Would you like to thank a teacher ? or a coach? A church pastor?
Your gratitude letter needs to have:
*a date in the top left hand corner
*Dear or To…
*clear things described that you are thankful for
*a picture to show how they have helped you
*tidy handwriting and proofread
We really want you to deliver these letters to the person you are grateful to- so make them your best work!
