Patterns in Numbers
What am I learning?
To continue a sequential (sequence) number pattern and say what is happening in the pattern
How can I make sure I am successful?
By finding the formula or the rule for the number pattern
Activity description/steps:
1.Example
3. Make up your own number sequence

Seesaw Numbers
What am I learning?
* How to write mathematical equations using information from a diagram.
How can I make sure I am successful?
* I can understand the information in the diagram.
* I can write math equations.
* I have used <, >, = symbols correctly.
Activity description/steps:
Today, you will help to solve which side of the seesaw is heavier!
Look at all the different seesaw diagrams in the activity sheet and write down the correct symbol to show the balance of the seesaw. First you will need to figure out how heavy each side is.
Look at the seesaw diagram. How can this be represented by numbers and equations? Let’s look at this example:
On the left side there are 3 orange counters on 4.
On the right side there is 1 counter each on 5 and 6.
You can write this out as:
4 x 3 and 5 + 6.
Solve the equations on both sides of the seesaw.
For example: 4 x 3 and 5 + 6.
12 and 11.
Use the correct symbol (<, >, =) to show the balance of the seesaw.
For example: 12 and 11 is...
12 > 11
Make sure you use each of the three steps to find the answers.

What am I learning?
To use our inferencing skill
How can I make sure I am successful?
Read the text
Read the questions
Find the HINTS and CLUES to answer the questions
Activity description/steps:
1.Read the text.
2.Read the questions.
3.Look for the hints and the clues that answer the questions. The hints and the clues that are hidden in the text are key words and ideas that tell you the answer e.g. He put his raincoat and gumboots on.
What was the season?
Winter because he was putting on his wet weather gear.
Write sentences to answer the questions and use the keywords and key ideas to answer the questions.
1.Did the people in the village like the boys? Why or why not?
2.Were the boys good guys? Why why not?
3.Did the boys love their father? Why? Why not?
4.Do you think we should read stories from other countries? Why? Why not?

Monsters
What am I learning?
* I am learning about different cultural beliefs.
How can I make sure I am successful?
*I have read the article slowly and carefully.
* I have written about a mythical creature or monster from my own culture.
Activity description/steps:
Meet the mythical creatures and monsters that exist all around the world! This article explains how these creatures came to be and what purpose they serve in their cultures.
Read the ‘Monsters’ article.
Can you find any similarities between the creatures from different countries?
Let’s share mythical creatures or monsters from our own culture!
Research and write about your creature or monster. Describe their characteristics, where they come from, where they live and what purpose they serve in your culture.
Draw or include an image so we can see how scary your creature is!

V.I.P
What am I learning?
* To describe a very important person in my life.
How can I make sure I am successful?
* I have used interesting adjectives to describe my V.I.P.
* I have described why this person is important to me.
* I have witten 1-2 paragraphs.
Activity description/steps:
Today you will create a descriptive writing about a very important person in your life!
Think about who your V.I.P. might be. It could be a member of your whānau, a friend or someone who has had a positive influence in your life.
Remember your character descriptions from last week. You need to describe:
External features: what they look like,
Internal features: what they are like as a person.
When you are describing your V.I.P. it is important that you show rather than tell.
If they are kind, you need to describe why they are kind and how that makes you feel. Describe why this person is very important to you!
Don’t forget to use powerful adjectives and adverbs to describe your very important person.
Once you have written 1-2 paragraphs, revise and edit your writing. Check for:
Broken sentences. Is your sentence too short? Is it missing a subject or verb?
Run-on sentences. Is the sentence too long?
Punctuation.
We look forward to meeting your V.I.P. through your descriptive writing!
