Back To Basics
What am I learning?
To practice my addition and subtraction.
How can I make sure I am successful?
By answering ALL of the questions.
By taking my time to work out the answers.
By adding and subtracting.
Activity description/steps:
It’s important to keep repeating and practicing things, otherwise we forget them! That’s why basic facts are super important.
BEFORE you start answering the questions. Write out all of the questions on a piece of paper (you could also print it out)
Time yourself and see how long it takes you to complete all of the questions.
Mark your answers using the answer sheet on the last page.
If you got any questions wrong, make sure you go back and check why they are wrong.
Share your mahi with someone from your whānau.
Extras for early finishers
If you would like some MORE practice: write out the questions and try again. See if you can beat your time!

Two Truths & One Lie
What am I learning?
*To solve equations
*Understand expressions and order of operations
How can I make sure I am successful?
*I am able to look at the symbols and put the correct number in its place.
*I am able to successfully balance each side of two equations.
*I am able to find the “lie”(the equation that doesn’t balance)
Activity description/steps:
Your job is to solve the three equations and determine which two equations are true and which one is false.
Two of them will be balanced (remember when we practiced balancing equations last week. Each side has to equal the same. For example: 3x2 = 9-3 they both equal 6.) One equation won’t be balanced.
REMEMBER your order of operations when completing each equation! Check out this website to help you refresh your memory!
*hint: parentheses goes first (2nd equation)
*multiply before you add (3rd equation)
To begin you will look at your symbols and replace them with their number value.
Once you have rewritten the equation with their number values, get solving!
Start by working out the left side.
Once figured, solve the right side.
Solve each equation.
Which one doesn’t balance? Were you able to find the “lie”? Find a whānau member and discuss your answers.
Send your work to your teacher! Make sure you’re able to back your answer if asked.
