Activity description/steps: To celebrate Chinese Language Week you are going to create an informative writing about a Chinese invention.
The purpose of informational writing is to teach the reader about a topic by providing facts and details. Think of it like an encyclopaedia entry.
Have a look through these 20 ancient Chinese inventions for inspiration. You can choose Chinese inventions not listed here; dumplings would be a great one to write about!
Choose a Chinese invention and gather information from at least 2 different sources.
Begin your writing with an interesting or important fact to introduce your invention to the reader.
Provide facts and details about your invention. Think about the 5W 1H questions – what is it, when, where and who made it, how did they invent it? 4.
Conclude with a statement about your invention – a good idea would be to end your writing with a sentence stating why your chosen invention is important.
Include an image or photo of your invention.
In informational writing you should avoid using personal pronouns – I think, my opinion is. You can still include a point of view as long as these are supported by facts and details - The compass is the greatest invention of all time because….
