What we've done
At this stage, you should have:
This lesson
We are going to expand each of those dot points to explain your intention, making, method and editing process and then we will reflect on audience afterward.
We will use the TEEAC paragraph structure to help us expand on our main points.
Applying TEEAC to AIMME
By combining our understanding of 'AIMME' which helps us created good photos and 'TEEAC' which helps us write good paragraphs, we can write good paragraphs about good photos which will make us successful communicators both visually and in written responses.
Topic = Audience & Intention
Technology has been used to convey meaning in photography, such as from the modernist movement, and in my photograph, the the intention is to represent emotions, such as loneliness and emptiness.
Note: You have not been asked to consider audience for this particular project so you are not required to mention this. In the future, you will be required to do this.
Explanation & Evidence = Make, Method & Editing
Loneliness and emptiness are represented in this image in a variety of ways. For example, to make the image, my subject is a building which has fallen in to disrepair. It shows signs of neglect and the absence of human presence. In the background is bright light and nature, creating a contrast between the idea of life and living outside and the emptiness and loneliness inside. The method to capture this was a high aperture as this allows audiences to identify what is in the background and a low shutter speed so that there is enough light inside while still giving it a dark and depressing vibe. Editing steps included using a colour filter to make the image black and white and increasing the contrast which contributes to the sombre mood and sense of conflict.
Analysis
This photo used the same techniques as a modernist photo because it utilised sharp focus, high contrast and black and white visual choices while conveying emotions even when capturing an empty space. To improve it, I would aim to try and communicate the same idea more abstractly, with more of an emphasis on shapes and less on space to try and challenge myself.
Conclusion
Through the use of subject matter, camera choices and editing, this photo represents ideas of loneliness and isolation, using similar techniques to modernist photographers to create meaning.
For Your Process Journal
Go to your 'Technology Images' page on your process journal.
At this stage, you should have:
Inserted your photos, with before and after edits and labelled them
Provided dot points for I, M, M, E below the images that note choices made to construct them
You should now create a heading under these images called 'Responding to Technology Photos.' You will start by responding to ONE of your photos.
Copy & paste the following framework below your heading:
-Topic
-Explanation & Evidence
-Analysis
-Conclusion
Fill out each section with at least one sentence, based on the example above.
Complete previous steps.
Make sure you have written several sentences in the Explanation & Evidence section of your paragraph (referring to Make, Method and Edit). Provide analysis of your images that links them back to the Modernist and Abstract movement.
Provide APA references for your response.
Complete previous steps.
Expand your response in to two paragraphs where one responds to an abstract or modernist photo that you have found as an example and the other responds to the photos that you have taken.
Find 1-2 specific examples of modernist or abstract photos that are similar to yours. Insert them and APA reference them. Explain what steps you took that are similar to the photos you have discovered.
Complete previous steps.
You should have multiple paragraphs that evaluate your photographs, making reference to the parts of AIMME and using in-text APA references. Your paragraphs should explore the modernist and abstract movement and make reference to multiple photographs that you have created.
