Process Portfolio
(Everything that captures how you made your final photos)
Assessment Value 30%
Week 15 Tuesday-Thursday
November 11-13th
Create a narrative photo series, using one of the themes below.
Keep a portfolio that tracks every part of your process.
These two instructions are broken down further below.
Throughout the semester, you have explored how photographic elements and AIMMEE structures can be used to communicate ideas in narrative photo series. You’ve studied a range of narrative techniques and will now make your own.
Your series should:
Tell a story or create a sense of narrative based on one of the themes below
Be made up of either:
-Five individual images, or
-Three (or more) composite images combining multiple photos (e.g. photomontage or digital layering)
Use the AIMMEE elements to enhance meaning and create cohesion across your series
Each of the theme titles is also a link to inspiration to get you started.
Capture images that evoke a sense of nostalgia, exploring how memory and the past shape your present and future.
Consider what images represent being isolated or connected. Do they feel positive or negative? Could your series transition from one to the other?
Explore the concept of identity, community or connection. You could consider how people find their identity in interests, culture or location.
A timeline plan on how you will complete this series
Ideas & sketches for your series
Practise photos / test shots / contact sheets (TIP: Plan for at least two shoots to allow time for feedback and improvements.)
Before and after editing (where editing is used)
Annotations on process (lighting, camera settings, compositional tools etc..)
Personal Reflection (see below)
critically analyse narratives within photographic works
critically analyse how a narrative is produced in photography
apply storytelling and technical skills through the creative process to produce photographic narratives
conduct Creative Inquiry to gain insights on how perspectives on the world and/or identity are presented through photography
AI Check
This portfolio task is designed to assess YOUR thoughts, YOUR skills, and YOUR understanding. While AI can be a helpful tool, it must be used appropriately and transparently.
❌ How AI CANNOT Be Used:
AI must not generate your final images, artist statement, or annotations.
AI must not replace your own research, idea development, or analysis.
AI must not be used to write any part of your personal reflection or portfolio documentation.
✅ How AI CAN Be Used:
Research & Inspiration: You may use AI-generated images as part of your mood board but must acknowledge their use in your reflection.
Project Planning: AI can assist with structuring a timeline or checklist, but you must adapt it to your own workflow.
Idea Generation: AI may help brainstorm concepts, but you should refine these ideas yourself and reference them.
🔎 Transparency & Acknowledgement:
If you use AI in your project, you must:
Explain how you used AI in your written reflection.
Include screenshots of any AI-generated content in an appendix.
Cite any AI-generated images in your references.
🚨 Consequences of Misuse:
If AI is used in ways not permitted, it will be treated as plagiarism. This may result in:
A score deduction, non-submission, or a required redo of the task.
A Sentral record of AI misuse, which applies across all of your class subjects.
A meeting with executive staff if AI misuse occurs in multiple tasks, potentially affecting your course completion (e.g. V grade).
Use AI responsibly, as a tool—not a shortcut. Your originality and understanding are what matter most in this portfolio. To learn more about use of AI, view this link.
