Week 18
Your task is to create a document, responding to a design brief. Your document will outline the client needs & context, target audience, constraints and additional considerations for the project and include evidence of your process and as well as final designs.
You will choose from three briefs which outline branding packages required for a new cereal company. You will consider the audience, design and branding needs to promote the messages required of your chosen company. Options are listed below:
Client Needs & Context:
Your client is a start-up cereal company called "PureHarvest Crunch." They are looking for a fresh and innovative branding concept that reflects the company's commitment to health, nutrition, and sustainability. The client values a modern and appealing design that sets them apart in the competitive cereal market. The branding should communicate the company's core values and the unique features of their cereal products. Branding must stand out on crowded shelves and catch the attention of consumers in grocery stores. Company logo and design elements should be able to be used across online and printed marketing materials as the company seeks to share social media posts on the release of the new product.
Target Audience:
The primary target audience for PureHarvest Crunch cereal is health-conscious individuals, aged 18 to 35, who are actively seeking nutritious and delicious breakfast options. This audience has attended university & some of them have completed higher level education (Masters). Consider creating a design that resonates with this demographic, emphasising the health benefits, natural ingredients, and the overall lifestyle associated with the brand.
Constraints:
The colour scheme should be vibrant, reflecting the freshness and natural qualities of the cereal products. However, it should also be versatile enough to accommodate variations for different flavours or types of cereals.
The logo and branding should be unique and not infringe on existing trademarks or designs in the cereal industry.
Consider sustainability in your design; the client is open to eco-friendly packaging options, so keep this in mind when creating visuals.
The budget for the initial branding project is limited, so designs should be cost-effective for production and implementation.
Client Needs & Context:
Your client is "KidCrunch Delights," a new cereal company dedicated to providing nutritious and appealing breakfast options for children. The client seeks a vibrant and child-friendly branding concept that not only captures the attention of young consumers but also reassures parents of the nutritional value and quality of the products. The design should incorporate elements that make KidCrunch Delights stand out in the children's cereal market. The purpose of this design project is to establish a fun and engaging visual identity for KidCrunch Delights which creates a positive and memorable association with the brand, encouraging children to choose these cereals and parents to feel confident in the nutritional benefits. KidCrunch Delights is entering a market where competition is fierce, and children's preferences are ever-changing. The branding needs to be eye-catching on supermarket shelves, and the packaging should convey a sense of excitement and adventure. Company logo and design elements should be able to be used across online and printed marketing materials as the company seeks to share social media posts on the release of the new product.
Target Audience:
The primary target audience for KidCrunch Delights is children aged 4 to 12 and their parents. The design should appeal to children's sense of fun and playfulness while assuring parents of the cereals' nutritional content and suitability for a balanced breakfast. The kids education is pre-school level. The parents have attended high school and some have attended college / university. Consider incorporating elements such as colourful characters, playful imagery, and interactive packaging that would resonate with the younger demographic.
Constraints:
The colour palette should be bright, cheerful, and child-friendly, while maintaining a balance with nutritional connotations.
Avoid overly stimulating or overly sugary visuals that may be off-putting to parents.
The design should have a focus on creating an interactive and engaging experience for children.
The logo and branding should be original, avoiding similarities to existing children's cereal brands to ensure a distinctive market presence.
Consider practicality and safety in packaging design, as the products will be handled by children and parents alike.
The budget for the initial branding project is limited, so designs should be cost-effective for production and implementation.
Client Needs & Context:
Your client is "ProFuel Crunch," a new cereal company dedicated to providing a nutritious and protein-packed breakfast option specifically tailored for fitness enthusiasts, often referred to as "gym bros." The client is seeking a strong and masculine branding concept that not only communicates the nutritional benefits of the cereal but also resonates with the gym culture. The design should appeal to those who prioritise fitness, muscle-building, and an active lifestyle. The branding should convey the high protein content, energy-boosting qualities, and the muscle-building benefits of the cereal as well as being easily recognisable in gym environments, health stores, and online platforms frequented by the target audience. Branding must stand out on crowded shelves and catch the attention of consumers in grocery stores. Company logo and design elements should be able to be used across online and printed marketing materials as the company seeks to share social media posts on the release of the new product.
Target Audience:
The primary target audience for ProFuel Crunch is gym enthusiasts, fitness-focused individuals, and those who prioritise a protein-rich diet. The design should appeal to a predominantly male demographic aged 18 to 35 who are actively engaged in weightlifting, bodybuilding, and fitness training. This audience includes people who are currently studying trades and at university and recent graduates who are dedicated to full-time work. Consider incorporating elements that resonate with the gym culture, such as strength symbols, fitness icons, and bold aesthetics.
Constraints:
The colour palette should be bold, masculine, and suggestive of strength and vitality. Consider using dark and vibrant colours associated with fitness and muscle-building.
The design should have a focus on communicating the protein content prominently.
Avoid clichés and stereotypes in the design; aim for a balance between masculinity and a modern, sophisticated aesthetic.
The logo and branding should be original, avoiding similarities to existing cereal brands targeting gym enthusiasts.
The budget for the initial branding project is limited, so designs should be cost-effective for production and implementation.
Based on the target audience listed, you should consider the size, shape and materials of the cereal package to suit these needs
In your planning, include notes on any ethical issues related to the design or construction of your cereal package
You must create the logo included in your cereal designs as a vector on Adobe Illustrator
Students seeking a grade higher than C must create as many original elements as possible as vectors on Adobe Illustrator
In your portfolio, you document your design process. This will mean providing the following:
A mood board
Research
Draft designs
Your final logo created on Adobe InDesign
Packaging idea development
Examples of how the branding will be applied to promotional materials or online platforms.
Notes on any ethical issues related to the design & production of your cereal packaging
A brief rationale (one paragraph to one page) explaining the design choices and how they align with the client's needs and the target audience.
You will also provide a mock up of the final cereal box that is constructed from cardboard or similar with your designs applied to the shape.
