A mood board is a collage or collection of images, text, and other visual elements that represent a particular theme, concept, or personal style. It serves as a visual representation of your interests, inspirations, and aspirations. Creating a mood board can be a great idea to introduce yourself and showcase who you are online. By curating and sharing examples of the type of media you are interested in, such as movies, artwork, fashion, or music, you can express your unique personality and tastes in a contemporary and visually compelling way. It allows others to get a glimpse of your passions and helps you connect with like-minded individuals who share similar interests. Moreover, in today's digital age, where visual content plays a significant role in self-expression, a mood board can be an effective tool to present yourself in an engaging and creative manner.
For your Digital Portfolio
You can create your own mood board on Canva that can then be inserted in the 'About Me' section on your digital portfolio. This is an engaging visual way to show the types of media you are interested in and to help your audience get to know you.
1. Go to canva.com.
2. On the top right, select 'Create a Design' (purple tab) and click 'whiteboard' from the drop down menu.
3. You now have a page that will be as big or as small as you make it, depending on how many things you put in.
4. Your mood board will be for your 'About Me' section on your digital portfolio. As our unit is about Screen and Media, it would be particularly good to include ideas around what movies / tv shows / influencers / social media / games / stories etc.. you read, watch and engage with.
5. Create a folder called 'Mood board' in Google Drive. Begin saving images related to your theme in this folder. They can come from anywhere and do not need to be royalty free.
6. As you are collecting images, please also create a Google Doc in your 'Mood Board' folder and collect the links to where your images are from. You will need to APA reference them.
7. Back on your Canva whiteboard, you can connect your Google Drive using the toolbars down the left side of the screen. This is through the 'Apps' section.
8. Navigate to your 'Mood Board' folder on Google Drive. Click and drag images from the folder shown on the left of the screen on to your 'whiteboard.'
9. Include a text box that says 'Mood Board' somewhere on your mood board. Arrange the elements, images, text etc.. in a way that is aesthetically pleasing to you. You can see my example which I have started here.
10. When you are done, go to 'share' on the top right of the screen and download your Mood Board as a PNG. Then, form the downloads folder on your computer, drag this in to the 'Mood Board' folder you have created on Google Drive. Keep it here to be used in your future portfolio.
