Typography is a word where ‘type and ‘ography’ have been merged.
Type is the writing produced by a typewriter or computer by pressing keys.
‘ography’ means the process of.
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and aesthetically appealing when displayed. This can include printed graphics (such as books, magazines, signs and billboards) or web graphics (such as websites, social media graphics and blogs). Typography can include choosing the style and appearance of characters (letters, numbers and symbols) as well as the arrangement (related to the principle of design: hierarchy) and includes considerdation of point sizes, line lengths, line-spacing and letter-spacing.

YOUR TASK
1 - Create a Google Doc and name it 'Typography'
2 - Write down definitions for the following:
Font
Typeface
Arrangement
3 - Research and write down definitions for the following font styles. Find at least one example of each:
Old Style
New Style
Modern
Decorative
4 - Create a table that is 3 columns and 11 rows. In the top row, write: name, description, place / product. See my example on the right.
5 - Write the names of 10 fonts you have access to in the font you have chosen. You an use the ones included in Google docs or go to dafont.com and click on a font you like and take a screenshot or snipping of the font you have chosen. This will go to your downloads folder and can then be insert in the left column to give you more font options.
6 - Write how you would describe what the font looks like, feels like and the mood it instils. #vibecheck
6 - Finally, consider a place or product that you think this font would be used for (e.g. traffic signs or a gaming website).
EXTENSION
1 - Open Adobe InDesign and create an A3 page.
2 - Consider how to make all of the content you just collected in to an interesting A3 poster.
3 - Pay particular attention to your use of arrangement, colour, size and line thickness.
