Now that you have investigated photographic social contexts in class—focusing on the influence of culture and identity—you must develop your own series of photographs that align with one of these contexts.
Use one of the following prompts as the theme for your series or suggest your own idea:
What things show who you are or what group you belong to?
What do people often assume about your culture or group?
What people, places, or objects are important to your identity?
What culture or subculture is important to you and how could you explore this?
What does it feel like to be an insider or an outsider from a particular culture (or subculture)?
Any inspiration that helps you refine your series idea
At least ten test images to choose from (Hint: Aim to create time for at least two photo shoots so you can get feedback and make improvements)
3-5 final images
Personal reflection on process
Provide each of the elements listed in a Google site page
Provide your final three images as PNG file types, uploaded to Google classroom
To understand how you will be marked, see the rubric provided on Google classroom.
AI Check
This portfolio task is designed to assess YOUR thoughts, YOUR skills, and YOUR understanding. While AI can be a helpful tool, it must be used appropriately and transparently.
❌ How AI CANNOT Be Used:
AI must not generate your final images, artist statement, or annotations.
AI must not replace your own research, idea development, or analysis.
AI must not be used to write any part of your personal reflection or portfolio documentation.
✅ How AI CAN Be Used:
Research & Inspiration: You may use AI-generated images as part of your mood board but must acknowledge their use in your reflection.
Project Planning: AI can assist with structuring a timeline or checklist, but you must adapt it to your own workflow.
Idea Generation: AI may help brainstorm concepts, but you should refine these ideas yourself and reference them.
🔎 Transparency & Acknowledgement:
If you use AI in your project, you must:
Explain how you used AI in your written reflection.
Include screenshots of any AI-generated content in an appendix.
Cite any AI-generated images in your references.
🚨 Consequences of Misuse:
If AI is used in ways not permitted, it will be treated as plagiarism. This may result in:
A score deduction, non-submission, or a required redo of the task.
A Sentral record of AI misuse, which applies across all of your class subjects.
A meeting with executive staff if AI misuse occurs in multiple tasks, potentially affecting your course completion (e.g. V grade).
Use AI responsibly, as a tool—not a shortcut. Your originality and understanding are what matter most in this portfolio. To learn more about use of AI, view this link.
