Showing Dimension
A form refers to a three-dimensional shape. These forms can be geometric, such as a pyramid, or organic, like a 3 dimensional shape without a mathematical name. In Art, sculptures can also be called forms and are known as closed and open. To represent physical form in two-dimensional spaces (like drawing and graphic design), relies on techniques like manipulating light, shade, value, and tone to create the illusion of depth and dimension.Â
Form in graphic design is an important part of visual hierarchy, guiding attention, and communicating the importance of elements. It contributes to the organisation and arrangement of a design, creates depth, can show aesthetic style and help convey symbolic meaning, foster brand identity and affect the user experience.
A closed sculptural form is a solid, opaque mass.
An open sculptural form is transparent, revealing its structure.
