Description

A portfolio is a collection of work that showcases skills, accomplishments, and creative capabilities. For a graphic designer, a portfolio is a representation of their body of work that can include samples of designs, illustrations, branding projects, and other relevant pieces. Graphic designers use portfolios as a means to demonstrate their expertise, creativity, and versatility to potential clients, employers, or collaborators. Portfolios can be physical and digital.

We will be working on a digital portfolio that captures class projects as well as personal projects and processes. This will support you to show your skills, and knowledge and understanding, including visual techniques, problem-solving and meeting the requirements of project briefs. To make your portfolio extra strong, consider not only what is included but use your style and layout to demonstrate your own personal brand and artistic perspective.

Things to include

Class projects: These should be included in your portfolio. Each week that you work on these, there will be instructions on what to include but the general rule is to capture everything that you have done.

Personal Sketches & Skills: If you do any personal sketches, plans, or idea development beyond what we do in class, put this in your portfolio.

Research: You might do personal research on Principles of Design, Elements of Art or extra information that helps you understand Graphic Design, styles visual choices, audiences or design briefs. If you do this, make sure to capture it in your portfolio.

Annotations: We will do some of these in class, but you can always find images, advertisements and graphic design work that you like and annotate these. This can help you demonstrate learning standards.

APA References: When you source inspirational images or do research, you should make sure to APA reference these to show where they came from.
